LYCRA®
The Art of Motion
LYCRA® is described as a man-made stretch fiber (also known as spandex in the USA and Canada)
Described as a segmented polyurethane, LYCRA® is composed of flexible segments held together by rigid segments. Under tension, the flexible segments stretch just as the rigid segments act as a brake. The flexible segments always return to their initial form at rest.
LYCRA® fiber is available in different lustres in a range of thicknesses or deniers, also expressed in decitex, or weight in grams per 10,000 metres of yarn. The finest LYCRA® yarn is 11 decitex, is finer than a human hair (10,000 metres of yarn would weigh 11 grams), while the thickest yarn has a decitex of 2500, which gives it great strength and power retention.
LYCRA® is manufactured in the USA, Canada, and several countries around the world, and supported by over 50 distribution centers.
